On February 28th, 1928, Sir C.V. Raman made his famous discovery known as the “Raman Effect.” This finding fetched him the world’s most prestigious award, the Nobel Prize in physics, in 1930. Dr. C.V. Raman’s pioneering research on the molecular scattering of light, the phenomenon that causes changes in the nature of light when it passes through a transparent medium, solid, liquid, or gas culminated in his getting the Nobel Prize.

Raman was instrumental in establishing the Indian Academy of sciences in 1934 to encourage talented Scientists in their research work. Dr. Raman used to talk about scientific subjects in simple language. According to him, “The essence of science is in independent thinking and hard work, not in equipment. He was devoted to the pursuit of science and the promotion of research in India.

The celebration of the National Science Day is done through an inter-school science competition. The open house of competition in science for the general public was started in 1997.

“Science is the saga of nature, to be with that very culture.”
