Hepatitis Awareness Day – 4^th Dec.

Hepatitis Awareness Day is celebrated every year on 4th December.

On this very date, a national conference was held for the first time to discuss all about the menace of the disease Hepatitis-B in New Delhi, under the banner of Yellow-Ribbon. It was the day to disseminate knowledge about the occurrence and preventive measures against the various types of hepatitis disease. Hepatitis ‘A’ and Hepatitis ‘E’ are caused by eating and drinking of contaminated food and water. The good aspect of it is that it can be prevented by maintaining good food hygiene, personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. But Hepatitis ‘B’. Hepatitis ‘C’ and Hepatitis ‘D’ are caused by the use of infection from infected needles and transfusion of infected blood. Newborn babies could get infected at the time of delivery from infected mothers. Hence Hepatitis ‘B’ vaccination to the newborn baby at the time of birth is important. Jaundice could be the symptom of hepatitis. Hence we are advised to strictly avoid all these known causes of hepatitis and keep ourselves and our family protected from these deadly diseases. The date of 4th December is celebrated by taking out rallies with placards, through advertisements in newspapers and also by organising health-meal. Thus this day serves as a reminder to the masses to be aware of causes and precautions about these diseases to lead a healthy life.
