A Journey by Train-English Essay, Paragraph, Speech for Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 Students.

A Journey by Train

A railway journey is a very useful experience. We meet different kinds of people. The castes becomes meaningless for the travellers. They become sympathetic towards each other. A railway journey thus widens our outlook. It leads to oneness and unity. I also had a chance to enjoy a railway journey.

I received an invitation from my elder brother to go to Shimla for a change. I jumped at the idea and begged dear father to allow me. He gladly did so. I packed my warm beddings and clothes and took some books with me.

I hired an auto-rickshaw and reached the station in time. I bought a ticket and went to the platform. The train arrived by 9.30 p.m. I had some difficulty but my coolie proved very helpful to me. He got me sitting accommodation in a compartment. I paid him double the wages in return for this help. The train whistled and left the station on time.

Passengers from Howrah were sleeping comfortably. I could not sleep while sitting. I took out a magazine and began to read it. My fellow passengers also found different ways of keeping awake. Some of them began reading newspapers or books like me, but others began to play cards. Still others began a merry chitchat. The weather was fine and sitting near a window, I felt quite comfortable.

At Karnal, a passenger sitting beside me alighted. I found it possible to stretch myself out a little. I took a cup of tea and tried to sleep. I was disturbed in my sleep at every station. At Chandigarh quite a large number of passengers alighted and I was able to lie at length. In a few minutes, I fell fast asleep.

I woke up at Kalka at about daybreak. I was to change here for Shimla. I got a good seat in a compartment of narrow gauge train.

The speed of this train was very slow because it had to go uphill. The scenery was extremely charming. High mountains rose in the distance. Here and there I saw small fields of paddy or vegetables. After about half an hour we crossed the first tunnel. Now the train began to ascend along the zig-zag way track. Tall pine trees came in view. Sometimes the railway track lay through lofty walls of mountains.

At Solan, I felt a little cold and put on my warm coat. Beyond Solan, the sky was overcast with thick dark clouds. The train reached Shimla in the afternoon. I found my brother at the platform to receive me. We hired a coolie and reached home safe and sound.
