Paragraph on “Spots on the Sun” complete paragraph for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

Spots on the Sun

If we observe the Sun, by projecting it’s image through a pair of binoculars onto a white piece of cardboard, we would see that it has black spots on it, these are known as ‘Sun spots’. These black spots are areas which get cooled down on the Sun’s surface because of the pull from the Sun’s own magnetic field acting upon that area. Sun spots generally appear in groups and a group may be eight to ten times bigger than the Earth and may last as long as ten years. The centre of the Sunspot is known as the ‘umbra’ and the area surrounding it is called ‘penumbra’. The umbra is the coolest area in the sun spot and generally has a temperature which is about 1000° centigrade lower than the temperature on the Sun’s surface.
