571. Formerly called Kiritimati, the Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean is 52 square miles. It was sighted and named on Christmas Day in the year, 1643 by British sailor, Capt William Mynors. The phosphate- rich island is now an Australian Territory.

572. Alexander Graham Bell, the man who invented the telephone, was originally an instructor for deaf children and invented the telephone to help his hearing- impaired wife and mother to hear.

573. Ray Ban sunglasses were originally created in the 1930’s for fighter pilots of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

574. The AK-47 assault rifle is named after Mikhail Kalashnikov, a Russian inventor and soldier.

575. People have been cleaning their teeth since the first tribes lived in Africa and Australia. It was the Chinese who invented the bristle brush toothbrush.
