My dear Vikram.

Oh, dear friend, I’ve some pleasant news for you! I have come to India for studies. If you were to ask me why I have come to such a far-off country, I would tell you that the Fiji Islands are still underdeveloped. We don’t have all those facilities for education that the Indian public schools have.

Then, since my schooldays in the Fiji Islands, it has always been my desire to become a doctor. Whenever I was asked or whenever I thought about my future, I always had the image of becoming a doctor. It is also one of the reasons why I’ve come to India for studies. I want to become a doctor, as it is a family tradition. My grandfather, father, and two brothers are all doctors.

I know that there are many obstacles which I will have to face before I fulfill my ambition. One of these obstacles will present itself when I do the Inter — Science. I will have to work very hard so as to get the required percentage. Only a high percentage of marks will enable me to secure a medical seat, and if possible, or if luck permits, a nomination seat. I am looking forward to the day when my dream comes true.

By the way, my heartiest congratulations on your topping the list of successful candidates at the annual examination. I’ve no doubt you’ll repeat this feat in the other school examinations.

I hope this finds you in fine fettle.

Yours sincerely

Narain
