Respected Father,

Pranam !

This is to inform you that my examination is over. I have attempted my papers well. I hope to secure at least second division. The result will be out in the first week of June.

It is well known to me that your income cannot afford my further studies. Money is also required for further education of my younger brother and sister. They are only in VIIth and VIIIth class at present. So I have decided to be a self-supporting member of the family. I long to stand on my own legs.

I like to undergo apprenticeship in some Railway Workshop. I shall get a scholarship of Rs. 100 p.m. I shall stay in the hostel during this training.

I shall meet all my expenses with this amount. I shall not ask for any monetary help from you. I shall have to appear in a test in applied Mathematics and General Science. I am sure to pass it. I shall prepare for this test during Summer Vacations. I filled up the application form and sent it to General Manager, Locomotive Workshop, Calcutta.

I shall have to serve any Railway Workshop for five years after this training. So future prospects are very good. I shall be reaching home in a week’s time. Rest is O.K.

Your loving son,
