My dear Anand,
In a long plaintive letter, you have complained that you feel terribly bored in your village. Naturally, you miss the attractions of the city—the air-conditioned theaters, the posh restaurants and so on—and the company of your peers.
I would like you to remember that your stay in the village is not going to be eternal. You’ll soon return to the city rendered more fascinating by absence. Secondly, if you look around, you’ll find adequate compensations in your village. I, for one, can spend years in the country, enjoying the beauties of Nature and the company of the unsophisticated villagers.
I also advise you to cultivate hobbies like reading or photography. Hobbies are the best means of warding off boredom. Lastly, remember that a certain degree of boredom is not only inevitable in life but desirable. If every day were exciting, excitement would lose its edge!
If you follow my advice, I’m sure you’ll recover your high spirits.
Yours lovingly,
Arun.
