Using Edible Colours
Materials Required:
- Slices of banana, apple, peach, pineapple, kiwi fruit
- Food colouring
- Dinner plate
Colours are an integral part of our lives. We see them in everything. Manufacturers use colorful packaging to attract consumers. Colours can also change our emotions and moods. Colours are used in holiday decors all over the world. Black and orange are used during Halloween and Christmas signifies red. A lot of blue and light pink is used in Easter.
We will carry out an exercise to see if we can change the colour of fruits.
Take a slice of banana, apple, peach, pineapple, kiwi fruit and place them on a plate. Drop a couple of food colouring liquid on each slice. Do any of the fruits change their colour? You can also try colouring slices of other fresh fruits from the market. Make an ensemble of different fruit slices on a plate.
Can you change the colour of vegetables with food colouring? Try converting a carrot into blue or making a potato green. Write the words ‘Happy Birthday’ along the length of a banana, using a toothpick dipped in the food colouring. You can do the writing in dots, lines or both. Note the change in colour.
