Altering Temperature
Materials Required:
- Three thermometers
- A refrigerator
- Strings
People know the usage of a refrigerator, but no one pays attention to the way, in which it functions. We know that it contains air inside it, but we don’t know where the air goes.
It actually moves out into the room.
The refrigerator runs on electricity. There are special tubes inside it, which are known as ‘refrigerants’, which contain fluids that absorb heat.
Through an electric motor, the heated fluid goes into the condenser and gives up the heat to the surrounding air.
The condenser is actually made up of coils which are placed either at the back or below the system.
Now take three thermometers, place one inside the refrigerator, one near the condenser and tying the last one on a string, hang it on the door, so that it can measure the room temperature.
First wait for the condenser to come on and then wait for it to go off after it reaches the temperature set by the thermostat.
Now measure the temperatures on the thermometers. The one on the condenser would be higher than the one checking the room temperature from the door.
