Chinese Goods Threatening Indian Goods
Dec. 22: The Indian business is now facing the Chinese onslaught with cheaper goods flooding the market. Chinese fans, batteries and bulbs as well as the automobile spare parts have taken the market by storm. Indian consumers now find Chinese goods to be more economical as compared to the Indian branded goods. This sudden advent of Chinese goods has triggered a shock wave to both the branded manufacturers as well as the small-scale industries. In fact, T-Series has already decided to close down its shutters as it feels that it cannot compete with the Chinese goods, which come at half the rate. Meanwhile Polar and Orient, the leaders in the fan segment have appealed to the govt. to take steps to prevent the Chinese blitzkrieg. The FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) has called a meeting of the small-scale manufacturers on December 23, to discuss the gravity of the situation and take remedial measures. Meanwhile, battery manufacturers like BPL and Eveready have decided to take stock of the situation and find out the feasibility of the business. Chinese batteries are available for Rs. 5/-. Indian battery manufacturers sell the same around Rs. 20/-. BPL especially, is facing a lot of problem in the alkaline battery segment. Meanwhile, the government is taking steps to curb this problem.
