Some governments say how many children a family can have in their country. They may control the number of children someone has through taxes. It is sometimes necessary and right for a government to control the population in this way. Do you agree or disagree.

As over-population turned a nightmare of the world countries, many governments started taking steps to tackle this problem. Some countries have implemented rules regarding the number of children allowed for a family. Some people consider it as a violation of individual rights while many others support it in my opinion, it is right to implement such laws as the intentions are benevolent.

The dire consequences of over-population are many, the biggest being poverty. When the population exceeds a certain limits, government collapses and poverty and anarchy rule. As a result, illiteracy, crime and unemployment are on rise. Proper food, shelter and sanitation will remain a distant dream for the population. As the population rises, due to lack of sanitation, epidemics and pandemics will threaten the life of people. Though many governments introduced persuasive methods like financial incentives, none proved fruitful. Hence, governments cannot be blamed for being coercive as control over population is necessary for progress of any nation.

Still, according to many critics, governments should try less intrusive methods before resorting to such coercive activities. Such activities may include modifying the curriculum, educational campaigns at local level and so on. This will help reduce the feeling of being obstructed as many people may feel that coercive methods are an intrusion into their individual rights.

In total, it seems that governments retain all the rights to implement any steps to keep population in check because the benefits of having a small and healthy population are plenty.
