More and more people are relying on cars as their preferable mode of transport. What are the problems associated with this over dependence? What can be done to control this? (Look for ‘effects’ and ‘solutions’)
Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend to use cars for travel. There is no doubt in the fact that this dependence has many inevitable consequences.
First of all, more cars mean more pollution. These vehicles mostly run on petrol and diesel which cause emission of highly toxic smoke and fumes. Such smoke and fumes are a health hazard. In addition, these vehicles worsen the problem of sound pollution. Yet another problem caused by more use of cars is increased wastage of both money and fuel. Further, plying these vehicles unnecessarily will create traffic congestion.
However, it is possible for the governments to discourage the use of cars through certain steps. First of all, public transport such as trains and buses should be encouraged. This can be done by making such transport cheaper. Local trains and buses should be run in all cities. Also, entry of private vehicles into the city centers should be banned. In addition, government can keep people away from cars by making cars and their fuel very expensive. There should also be heavy duty levied on those who use their own vehicle.
In a nutshell, it seems that with the combined effort of government and the general public, the problem of uncontrolled use of cars can be solved.
