How do some birds find food in winter?

You have seen how many animals are specially adapted to suit the environments in which they live. Because the majority of birds can fly, however, they can travel from one area to another to take advantage of the seasons’ times of plenty. In fact, whole populations of some birds migrate north and south with the changing seasons. Birds that eat insects, for example, may breed in northern areas during the summer when food is plentiful and then fly south with the approaching harsh weather of winter. Some birds may fly immense distances when they migrate. Perhaps the most extra-ordinary traveller of all is the Arctic Tern. As the name suggests, they breed in Arctic latitudes but then fly right down to the Antarctic seas, having flown some 50,000 km (31,000 miles) or more, there and back.
