How do bats catch their food?

 

Bats like a the Microchiropterans find their food, and their way about, by echo- location. By making high-pitched squeaks, the sound waves which bounce back from objects tell them what is in their path. If an object is close, then the sound comes back quickly, if it is further away it takes longer. To trap these returning echos, the bats have large ears and often strange flaps of skin on their noses and ears to help channel it. This method of echolocation is so sensitive that a bat can detect veer away from objects like telegraph wires. Conditions as other bats and they rely more on their eyes for finding food.

 

How many kinds of bat are there?

 

We may seldom see hats, but they are the second most numerous group of mammals after the rodents (the group which includes the rats and mice). There are nearly 1,000 different types of hat in the world, and they are found in most countries, although some islands have no hats, and they do not like cold places like the North and South Poles.
