Work Done Without Show and Pomp Presides
Any work, done with the aim of realizing its own purpose rather than the selfish aims of its doer, will definitely be virtuous and successful. Success is possible in such cases because the efforts of the doer will be sincere, with attention focused fully on the work. But, if the aim of doing a work is to secure glory or acclaim for the doer, it is likely that the doer’s efforts will be devoted more towards winning publicity — a tendency which might distract attention on the work and increase the chances of its failure. Many of the social reform movements that started in the late nineteenth century, which were responsible for improving the lifestyles of the people, are examples of what quiet and committed work can lead to.
