The Autobiography of a caged Monkey

Outline: Early life in the forest – caught in a trap and brought to a zoo, – unhappy in a cage.

My life began as a tiny monkey in a big forest. The forest was dark and cool. The green leaves formed a roof over our heads. We moved about in a troop. We baby monkeys used to cling to our mothers’ stomachs as they leapt from tree to tree.

Soon I grew up and delighted in jumping from one tree to another. We lived on jungle fruits and nuts. Sometimes we raided a nearby orchard and feasted on fruits and flowers.

One day many of us were caught in a trap. We were brought to this zoo and shut up in this cage. We cannot be free any more. We have to move about in a small space. Our movements are restricted

I am unhappy in another way too. We are ill-treated by many visitors to the zoo. They make faces at us, tease us and poke sticks at us. We cannot understand how man who loves freedom can deprive us of our precious freedom. He should leave us to be happy in our own way in the forest where we were born.
