On My First Looking At the Sun Rise
Sunrise is a common phenomenon. It occurs every morning at dawn. Most of the people who have grown materialistic are either unaware of this wonderful phenomenon or they don’t care for it a fig.
As a little child, I might have seen the sun rise several times. But I was too little a child and I cannot recall any of such occasions.
My earliest remembrance of the sight of sunrise tells me that I was climbing a low hillock with my father on the outskirts of my village. Needless to say that it was very early in the morning and the dawn was about to break.
Hardly had I reached the summit of the hillock when my eyes involuntarily ran towards the east. I was simply swept off my feet at the sight of the rising sun. I was too young to thank God for such a bounty. The early rays of the sun looked like golden wires which were spreading in all directions. Soon everything seemed bathed in liquid gold. Even the shepherds, who were moving with their flocks on the road opposite to the hillock, seemed to be gold-plated.
My father bowed to the rising sun and so did I.
