Five Women in Indian History I Like Most

There have been many great women of India. Among such ancient Indian women we have Sita, Shakuntala, Gargi, Draupadi, Damayanti etc. However, I’d like to make a mention of five great Indian women who appeared in later history of India.

First of all, I like Lakshmi Bai, the famous queen of Jhansi. She is commonly known as Rani Laxhmi Bai. She single handed against the mighty British. She laid down her life for the free known as Rani Lakshmi Bai.

Secondly, I like Mira Bai. She was the queen of Mewar. She got much engrossed in her spiritual love for Krishna that she did no o so for anything or anybody. She composed sweet hymns an, are poems in praise of Lord Krishna which are still recited with great devotion. She was served a cup of poison which she drank fearlessly. In her own way chew as the embodiment of all that is great, pure and fearless in Women.

Thirdly, I like Mother Teresa. She was a model of sacrifice. She served the poorest, the lowliest and the lost with utmost devotion. She was rightly honoured with various prizes and awards, including the Nobel Prize. She is still remembered as the saint of Gutters and she has now been canonised.

Fourthly, I like Sarojini Naidu. She was a great stateswoman as well as an equally great poet. She was a great lover of man and nature. She mostly wrote on Indian themes. Her poems are written in a very simple, sweet, musical style. Such poems as Palanquin Bearers, the Queen’s Rival, etc. are known to every lover Of Indian English poetry in India.

Fifthly, I like Mrs. Indira Gandhi. She has so far been the only woman Prime Minister of India. I may not like some of her policies, particularly the imposition of emergency, etc. Yet she will always be remembered for her having inflicted’ a crushing defeat on Pakistan and having liberated Bangladesh in 1971.
