Five Great Indians I Like Most

There have been innumerable great men and women in India. I like all of them. But I like some of them more than others.

First, I like Ashoka, the Great. He was a great king. He gave up violence after the Kalinga war and devoted all his later life to the service of humanity. He set up hospitals for men, animals and birds and preached and practised love for all.

Secondly, I like Maharana Pratap. He was a true and brave Rajput. He fought the mighty Mughal army with great courage. He was one of the first Indians to assert and fight: for the liberation of the country from the foreign rule.

Thirdly, I like Mira Bai. She was a model of love, devotion and freedom for women. She demonstrated withgreat courage and practically sacrificed her own life to uphold, that women had the right to lead a free and dignified life according to their sweet will.

Fourthly, I like Mahatma Gandhi. He was the embodiment of truth and non-violence. He had the courage to fight the mighty British Empire while leading the life of a faquir. It was mainly because of him that India got freedom in 1947.

Fifthly, I like President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. In my opinion, he deserves a place among the greatest Indians. He is known as the ‘Missile Man’. His famous uttering is ‘Strength respects strength’. He has a genuine vision to make India a developed nation by 2020.
