A Birthday Party

Essay No. 01

I always celebrate my birthday with modest pomp and show, and this is what I did yesterday on my 14th birthday.

Days before I had sent invitation cards to my friends and relatives. Most of them had responded positively. Only a few had expressed their reluctance to attend the party in view of their previous engagements.

My best friend, Trishna, came to our house a day earlier. Both of us went to the market and made the necessary purchases. The birthday was to be celebrated in the evening and by the noon yesterday, we were equipped with everything in tiptoe order.

My relatives and close friends started pouring in, the afternoon. Some of them who came from distant places took lunch with us.

The party started in our large dining hall in the evening. The place was well-lighted with colourful lamps, balloons, ribbons and bunting. The chairs had been arranged by the servants. A large table was laid in the middle of the room.

The cake arrived on time. The renowned baker, Mr. Sirnran, had prepared it. It was a beautiful chocolate cake with the words “Happy Birthday to Reena” embossed on it.

I stood before the cake in a fascinating dress and looked like a princess as the study of snaps later told me. I cut the cake after extinguishing all the candles but one. Everybody clapped saying ‘, Happy Birthday to you.

Every guest was given a piece of cake, sweets, nankeen, cold drinks, ice cream, etc. Then there were songs and dances to the tune of a deck. There were also skits and titbits. It was a mini-cultural show.

Every guest brought a gift for me. One of the tables in the hall was loaded with glittering gifts. I was very happy and so were all my friends and relatives.

A Birthday Party

Reema is my neighbour. She turned twelve recently and her parents held a birthday party for her and I was invited to the party.

The party began at about three in the afternoon. There were about twenty of us children gathered in Reema’s house. We all were dressed in our best clothes. Everyone, especially Reema, was wearing a pretty dress and looking the most beautiful with a smile on her face.

We gave several gifts to Reema and she happily opened them. It must really be exciting to receive all those gifts.

After that Reema’s mother served us soft drinks and delicious tidbits. We then played some games like “Musical Chairs” and “Treasure Hunt”. The winners were given prizes.

At about four-thirty her mother brought out the birthday cake. It was beautifully decorated with pink and white icing. Twelve colourful candles were set in the middle of the cake. We all sang “Happy Birthday to Reema” after which she blew out the candles and cut the cake. We clapped our hands eagerly.

We helped ourselves to slices of the delicious cake and after that, we continued with our games.

Finally, at about six in the evening, the party came to an end. We were all tired but happy. The parents of the other children came to collect them. I helped Reema and her mother clean up the mess we had made. After that, I walked home which was only two doors away.

Essay on ‘A Birthday Party’

Last week I attended the birthday party of my friend Vishal. It was his fifteenth birthday. He had invited other friends too. Some of his relatives were also present.

His houses were tastefully decorated for the occasion. His guests were served with soft drinks. A big pandal had been decorated. Sofa sets and chairs were placed there in a semi-circle. He was busy in welcoming his friends and relatives. They had brought presents for him. I too had a set of Parker pens beautifully packed for a gift.

The ceremony began with a hawan and chanting of mantras. Soon after it there was a prayer. All of us blessed him ‘A Happy Birthday to you’. Vishal looked like a prince. He felt proud. Everyone wished him a long happy and prosperous life in his own way. All the people present were pro- vided tasty lunch. There were different items too at different stalls. The guests enjoyed the items. Songs were sung by some of his friends on the mike. One by one the guests wishing him a happy birthday gave him his or her present. I also handed over to him a set of packed pens. His parents also blessed his friends and thanked them for attending the birthday party of their son.

I took leave of him late in the evening. He felt happy and relaxed at the end of the party.
