Sunil Manohar Gavaskar is the pride of the cricket world. He is widely held as the world’s top batsman in view of his many brilliant records on the cricket ground. He has hit 34 centuries and thereby broken the previous record of Don Bradman’s 29 centuries, he has also scored more than 10,000 runs, highest by any batsman. Sunil Gavaskar is the I only cricket player in the world who has scored 1000 runs in a single cricket year thrice. Sunil Gavaskar has also proved a good skipper and Indian team made such notable achievements under his leadership by winning the ‘Asian Cup’ and the ‘Benson & Hedges World Cup’ tournament.

Sunil Gavaskar has received many honours and awards both within the country as well as outside for his remarkable achievements in cricket, In 1975, he received the Arjuna’ award and in 1980, he was honoured with Padma Bhushan’. In 1980, he was honoured by Wisded Gavaskar is also the writer of such popular books on cricket as Sunny Days; Idols, Runs and Ruins and One Day Wonders.

Sunil Gavaskar, the ‘little master’ of cricket, was born on 10th July 1949, in Bombay. Even while playing in his school team, Gavaskar showed his tremendous potentiality as a cricketer. Gavaskar started his test life in 1971, during Indian Team’s tour to West Indies.

As an opening batsman, Gavaskar has been the home burn of the aggressive balling of the oppenent team. He not only faced such fast bowlers of the world as Lily, Thomson, Marshall, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Imran Khan and others with full confidence, but by his fiery batting built up a giant score on their balls including centuries.
