Pradeep Kumar Bannerjee gave a new direction to Indian football and established himself as a great and highly respected football player. He started participating in National competitions since 1952 when he was only 16 years old. This is a record in itself. He represented India in .84 matches and scored 60 goals. He was a member of the Indian football team for 12 years. He was the first foot-ball player to be awarded “Arjuna” award, which he received in 1961. He considers Indian victory at the Jakarta Asiad as the most significant achievement of his life.
Pradeep Kumar Bannerjee has been the mainstay of Indian team. The era of Indian football received a setback in 1966 after his retirement.
Born on 23 June 1936, Mr. Banerjee, was fond of football since childhood. His father Prabhat Kumar Bannerjee himself was a great player. Pradeep Bannerjee joined Bihar team for Santosh Trophy in 1952 and reached Olympics through Asiad. He is considered a first-rate player even today.
