Anyone with a little interest in sports is bound to be familiar with the name Martina Navaratilova. The name and fame she has earned in the Tennis World has no equal. She is rated at the third place in all-time Women Tennis Greats. She has lost on very few occasions.
Martina was born in Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia in October 1956. She was a very enthusiastic player from her childhood. So, she started participating in various championship. She, however left Czechoslovakia and settled in the United States of America in 1975 due to certain personal reasons. She is now an American citizen. She won the American open championship in 1977, 78, 80. She also won women’s double in 1978 and 1979. Of the twenty-five championships held in 1979, she won half of them.
Age has not been a barrier to Martina, unlike other players. She won Grand-Slam in 1983-84. In 1990, she won six events in the Grand-Slam championships.
Martina is one of all-time great of Tennis World. She has won about two million dollars till 1986, a unique record indeed.
