Alfred Hitchcock, the very name conjures up suspense and horror in the minds of movie-goers all over the world. The spectators sat on the edge of their seats as the plot of his films unfolded, shocked and thrilled them at every turn of the story. This Master of Suspense was born in England in 1899. Though he studied in London University, he failed to get any degree. Heiworked in a cable company and then drifted towards films in the US. He, was a director by the age of 25. When he started making films, he suffered from paucity of funds and to save money, he himself portrayed extra roles in his films. Soon, he won recognition as maker of suspense and horror films and was considered as a top director.
Hitchcock became the most talked about and successful maker and director of films. His films were equally popular all over the world. He made some 60 films and compared over 350 TV programmes. His film Rebecca, the first he made in Hollywood, won the Oscar Award. Another film Frenzy was declared the best film of the year 1972. Another film Psycho is still unexcelled as a horror and suspense film which stunned audiences all over the world, because of its realistic acting and eerie atmosphere. Hitchcock strode like a colossus from the times of silent movies to talkies and was knighted by the Queen of England.
