World Tourism Day is observed every year on 27th September. This date coincides with an important milestone in world Tourism, the day of the anniversary of the adoption of the Tourism organization (WTO) statute on 27th September 1970. This day is commemorated by appropriate events on themes selected by the General Assembly on the recommendation of WTO’s Executive Council. Tourism is considered as the experience of travel with a special opportunity to acquire knowledge and wisdom. It has educative values which broaden the horizon of our mind and intellect. Tourism also acts as an instrument for world peace.

Each year, World Tourism Day is celebrated with different themes, keeping in mind the changing scenario of major economic. In the year 2002 for the 23rd World Tourism Day, the theme was: “Ecotourism, the key to sustainable development.” Tourism is the phenomenon of human mobility that has developed rapidly in recent decades and involves millions of persons.
