Republic Day on 26th January is celebrated in our country as remembrance day, as the Indian constitution came into force on this day. After long slavery by British Empire, our country got its freedom on the 15th August 1947.

On the 26th of January 1930 at the Lahore session, Indian leaders started a planned struggle for complete freedom from the British Empire. Meetings and parades were organised on this day throughout the whole country for freedom for the first time.

Republic Day is a national festival. The main function is celebrated near India Gate in New Delhi. On this day, there is a large gathering of people at Vijay Chowk and India Gate. The general public, leaders, diplomats of other countries, high-rank army officers, all congregate at Vijay Chowk. First of all, the Prime Minister of India pays homage to martyrs in front of Amar-Jyoti at India Gate. After that. President of India comes at Vijay Chowk. Escorted by mounted guards. The President unfirls the Tri-colour flag and the tune of the National Anthem is sung. Then selected and mounted soldiers of army give salute to the president and thereafter colourful parade of different schools and organisations passes, saluting the president. At night government buildings are decorated with colourful lights. Thus, celebrating 26th January reminds us of the costly freedom and values of it.
