English Essay, Paragraph, Speech on “Living in A City” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Living in A City

There was a time when living in a city was considered to be a blessing in disguise. There were all kinds of modern amenities in a city. The streets and localities of the cities were well maintained and spacious. The civic system was responsive and so was the law and order machinery,

Those were the times when the living conditions in the villages were very bad. They could be likened to that existing in hell. There was no proper drinking water, sanitation, health care, education system, roads, and transport. To live in villages was considered to be a great risk. At the same time the unpolluted air, healthy and fresh food, and simple living were often thought to be the best form of recuperation that a person could have.

Today the situation has changed. The cities and villages can no longer be described as heavens or hells on earth. Rapidly increasing population and cross migration of people have severely strained the resources of the cities. Cities do have sufficient drinking water, electricity, and civic amenities to cater to the needs of the people. People on the other hand are totally unaware of how to make the best use of the civic amenities. As the result we see well-planned markets turn into a large congregation of shops and hawkers. Once neat and clean roads have taken the form of narrow and ill-maintained lanes. Unauthorized construction has reduced well-planned colonies into slums of bricks and mortar. There are dirt and noise everywhere. Dishonesty, cheating, power and water shortage, pollution, etc. have become the way of life.

Not surprisingly people find living in cities a big burden. Those who have means have once again started shifting to villages and their neighboring areas. While those who are unable to do so try to make the best of what they have. Towns and cities are today no longer the heavens that were envisaged by our town planners and developers.
