Doctor’s Day – 1st July

Doctors Day is celebrated on 1st July every year to commemorate the birth anniversary as also the date of demise of a great patriot and eminent physician, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr. Roy was the architect of West Bengal. He was a world-class doctor as well as an honest politician. He received Bharat Ratna in 1961 for his noble services to our nation, India.

A doctor is a person, who is qualified to treat sick and ailing persons. He consults, treats, and give immunity from painful condition or disease to a person. Thus a doctor is a noble person, who gives health and happiness to million lives. The doctor deserves respect and obligation from society.

Celebrating Doctor’s Day is to highlight Doctor’s position and dedication to the humanity. People get aware of his painstaking job and give respect and reverence to a doctor concerned. In 1991, Govt. of India declared that the 1st of July, every year be known as Doctor’s Day. Dr. B.C. Roy national award Fund Management Committee also thought it fit to announce the Dr. B.C. Roy National Awards on doctor’s day every year. Since 1993, these awards are given by Rashtrapati Bhawan to eminent doctors for their duty and devotion, Awardee doctors feel his worth and show more sincerity and dedication to his work. On this day the whole doctor community feels the importance of his job in society and takes the oath to work harder to liberate the ailing humanity.
