Union is Strength

 Essay No. 01

This proverb means strength lies in being united. It is rightly said that united we stand and divided we fall. It is by uniting that man has developed civilization. If it were not so, we would have remained the inhabitants of the forest. All progress is the result of the united efforts of men. When a man gets separated from the main body, he grows weak. Had men not faced the early difficulties of their existence on the earth, the human race would have disappeared by now. No difficulty can stand in the way of those who face it united. Insects like bees and ants always work in a union. One life for all and all live for one. Evils like illiteracy and corruption can be abolished by joint efforts. The progress and prosperity of a nation depend upon the combined efforts of one and all. Our country is passing through a period of crisis. There is a lack of unity and co-operation. The crying need of the hour is unity. We should learn a lesson and foster unity among ourselves. Who lives if India dies, who dies if India lives?

Union is Strength

If we work collectively, cooperating with one another, we can achieve our goals more easily than if we work individually. As abilities and limitations vary from person to person, it is possible that, when we work together, our abilities will complement one another and combine together to neutralize our limitations. Thus, even though the challenges of life may seem daunting, we should realize that we can have sufficient collective strength to overcome them all. Such strength, acquired through cooperation, will lead to better success than that through isolated, individual effort. India’s successful struggle for independence is a worthy illustration of this maxim. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, our collective efforts against the British helped us realize what was widely thought impossible.
