1. In this great land of India, we can boast of plenty of trees.

2. Once upon a time there were thick forests near villages, towns and cities. Sadly, man in his greed has cut so many trees for his comfort, that today there are floods, deserts and wastelands.

3. Trees are very useful to man. They prevent the rich topsoil from being washed away by rainwater and floods.

4. You can see trees being planted along mountain slopes, on roadsides, in parks and gardens.

5. Trees give us shade. They add life to a place with their colourful flowers, beautiful leaves, fruits, and thick trunks.

6. They provide shelter to birds and animals.

7. Trees give us timber, medicines, paper, gum and many other useful products.

8. Trees take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. As you know by now, man needs oxygen to breathe and live.

9. Trees are our best friends. We should protect them and try to plant more trees around us.

10. This is the only way we can save our earth.
