Dear Rajesh,

Many thanks for your kind letter, which I received the other day. I am really sorry to say that I could not reply your previous letters, as I had gone to Agra with my uncle. In this letter, I am going to give you my first impressions of the Taj, which has been described as a lyric in stones.

We visited the Taj on the second day of our arrival. The Taj stands on a white marble platform, the four minarets, one at each corner like four sentinels on duty. The white dome, the beautiful pinnacles, the lovely arches, all these are of supreme beauty and grace. The beauty of the Taj is indescribable, it beggars all description. Looking at this superb monument, we are simply spellbound. We marvel at this artistic perfection. Its beauty is perfect and flawless.

In the moonlit night, the huge marble building seems to melt into the moonlight. It seems to be a lovely building brought on the earth from the fairly land.

The Taj was built by Emperor Shahjahan in the memory of Queen Mumtaj Mahal, the greatest beauty of her time. It took eighteen years to build at a cost of 30 crores of rupees. In the words of an American tourist, it was Shahjahan’s community project.

The Taj was built about three hundred years ago, yet it looks as fresh as built yesterday. Time leaves no mark on this building. Days, months and years pass, yet the Taj never grows old. It is a lyric of love written in white marble. Their love has conquered time.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever,

Its loveliness increases, it will Never fade into nothingness.

I hope you will also like to pay a visit to this edifice.

With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

(X)
