From Son to his Father

Dear Sir,

I am feeling the pinch of the rising prices in the college hostel here in the Engineering College at Chandigarh. I have not yet told you to enhance my monthly allowance, because I felt that I shall make do with what you are offering me, but I find it simply impossible. Most of the students here are getting double of what you are offering me.

I do  not want to harass you because of the strained circumstances through which our family is passing at the moment but I am sure you are fully conscious of the fix that I am in. so I would like you to increase my monthly allowance by one-third at the least.

Besides , I need advance immediately because I have completely exhausted the  last month’s  budget and an now completely living from hand to mouth, counting the days when your Money Order or the draft will come.

Hope Mummy, children and everybody at home is quite well. How is the health of Anju? What is Sangeeta doing at the moment.

Received your letter of …..

Sangeeta is hale and hearty. Anju keeps kicking around the house as usual. They are growing up fast and matching with you, thereby increasing my financial responsibilities.

As to your allowance, you should know that everybody is feeling the hardship and you must learn to cut your coat according to your cloth. Al you have to do is to tighten your belt. There is nothing that I can do to increase your allowance.

Get rid of the avoidable expenses and look for a part time job to pull through your current difficulties and financial problems.

Enclosed herewith is a draft for Rs. 100/- only. Make do with this sum for the time being. I will send you the balance of the allowance by the middle of the month.

Work hard and study hard so that you can secure a good job as soon as you are through with your studies. This is the only way really to help you solve your problems and also help us in solving the family’s rising difficulties.
