Science Project on “Sunlight and Colours”, Project Experiment Topics on Light, Sound, Maths, Optical Illusion for Class 8, 9, 10 and 12 Students.

Sunlight and Colours

Materials Required:

1. Colored construction paper

2. Adhesive tape

3. Safety scissors

4. Drawer cabinet

Sunlight is good for plants but it might not be as good for household furniture. A window side may not necessarily be the best place for your couch. What if the strong rays from the sun fade color.

Collect two pieces of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and black construction paper. Cut two strips about 5 cm wide and 15 cm long from the red paper. Follow the same with the other construction papers.

Fix each one of the colored strips with adhesive tape on a window, where the sun comes in. Take the other set of strips and put them in a drawer away from the sunlight.

Take the two set of strips, after a couple of weeks and place them next to each other. Do you see any color change in the ones that were on the window and those kept away from the sun?

Is there any discoloration? If affirmative, which color dulled the most and which the least?

If you place a couch by the window now, which color do you think would dim the least?

What will happen if the strips were left on the window for a month?

Collect two pieces of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and black construction paper again.

Cut two strips, about 5 cm wide and 15 cm long from the red paper. Follow suit with the others as mentioned.

Now cut 5 strips from the black construction paper measuring 5 cm across and 8 cm long. Take one black strip and tape it over half of the red.

Do the same with the orange, yellow, green and blue strips.

Stick them on a window where the sun comes in. The black paper should be facing outside.

Like in the previous test, place the other set of strips in a drawer away from the sun.

Similarly, compare the different strips after two weeks and note the change in them.

Do you see any difference in the strips placed on the window and away in the drawer?

Is there any change in the parts of the colored strips that were covered by the black paper and those in the drawer?

How do the other colours-brown, purple and white, fare in the sun?
