Earth’s Hemispheres
Materials Required:
- Pencil and paper
- Postage
- Research materials
The imaginary line around the center of the earth is known as the “Equator”. The Equator divides the earth into two parts, known as “Hemispheres”.
Due to the earth’s tilt on the axis, the Northern Hemisphere has summer, when the southern one has winter and viceversa. While the most famous star in the Southern Hemisphere is the Southern Cross, the Northern Hemisphere ‘has the Big Dipper.
Latitudes and longitudes are the grids drawn up on the surface of the earth. These imaginary lines help us find any place on the surface of the earth. While there are 89 equally placed lines of latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, there are another 89 such lines in the southern part. With the help of an atlas, find out the latitude of the place, in which you live. Find another town on the same latitude, as yours. You can make friends with people in that latitude and have general discussions on astronomy.
