Helicopters
Though unusual the helicopter is a useful aircraft. Since they can vertically take off and land in a very limited space, turn in any direction very quickly and hover in air, helicopters can be put to many uses. They have been successfully used for passenger, mail or goods’ transportation, or for prospecting, aerial photography, sea and land rescue work, crop spraying and a host of other purposes. A helicopter is powered by an engine on its top with blades which rotate at high speed to give the craft its lift. To fly forward the blades are tilted downwards from the front, with the help of controls in the pilot’s cabin, to continue flying at a specific height, the blades are allowed to rotate straight. Turning to the right is accomplished by tilting their blades to the right and vice-versa for the left. A smaller rotor on the tail prevents the helicopter from spinning around and turning quickly.
