Sub. : Urgency to overcome the nuisance of begging from roads and streets
Sir,
“Isn’t it pathetic and an expression of our backwardness that even after about sixty years of independence, beggars are still a common sight everywhere, including our National Capital ? Though late, the society as well as the government must come forward to overcome this problem without any further delay. It is our national responsibility not to encourage idlers and drones, who are parasites on those, who work hard to earn their livelihood. Hordes of beggars, many of whom include young children and healthy ladies in rags, can be seen pestering not only the Indians but also foreigners at every crossing and traffic light, bringing bad name to our great nation. Specially the foreigners are sure to take home a very poor impression of the conditions in our country, when they leave India after their sightseeing.
Though begging at public places is legally banned, its implementation has yet to be seen. It is high time for the law-enforcing agencies to be tough with anyone who is found begging. Already our Capital has over ten thousand beggars and their number is on a steep rise day by day. Unless and until immediate, drastic steps are initiated to tackle the problem, it is sure to become impossible to rout it out at a later stage.
The blind, the crippled, the disabled and the orphans do deserve a soft corner from the society, but for their help, special shelter homes and rehabilitation centres have to be established and funded by the government or charitable organisations.”
Hope you would be considerate enough to publish my views in your esteemed Paper ! With regards,
Sincerely yours,
Ram Sevak
