It has been rightly said that necessity is the mother of invention. Most of the inventions and discoveries owe their successful operation to necessity. Unless there is want we cannot struggle to attain the goal.

When the man felt hungry, he started hunting and till the land. The need for shelter leads the man to build huts and houses. The need for quick travel resulted in the invention of the fastest means of transport, making the world sort. At a time of necessity, the human mind, which is creative and imaginative, thinks in a very quick manner.

In this age of science where a race is going on, deadly weapons are being manufactured due to necessity. The fear of the enemy has forced the power-hungry countries to invent such destructive weapons of death.

In the political life, it is again the necessity which leads us to think of new forms of government –whether socialistic or otherwise in pattern.

As new needs arise, fresh methods are devised to meet the new plans are hatched to find solutions to different problems. Necessity makes us bold, zealous, and eager enough to fulfill our needs. Necessity is a blessing in disguise.

Man can achieve anything he wants to be provided he puts in hard labor and sincere efforts. Where there is a will there is a way. Where there is any necessity, there is some invention, some research, in order to fulfill that necessity. All our inventions and discoveries are the direct result of our pressing needs.

This saying stresses the importance of necessity in inventing new things. When we feel the necessity of a thing we put in all our resources to find it out. In old times man used to live in jungles. In order to protect himself from wild animals, he made caves of big stones. In order to eat cooked food, he invented fire. He invented tools and weapons to hunt animals for food. Slowly and slowly he felt the need of finding some other kind of food. He came to know that the earth on which he lived could give him enough. He began to cultivate the land and thus the art of agriculture came into existence. Similarly, with a view to going from one place to another quickly, man invented the wheel. Consequently, railways, cars, buses, and airplanes came into being. When the necessity of recreation was felt, the scientists invented the radio, television, and cinema. This is not the end of inventions. Inventions will continue to be made as long as there is the necessity for a thing.

Man has various needs. To satisfy his needs man has invented. It is natural that necessity put a man into action. It is human nature that unless he needs something, he will not Endeavour. The more intense will be the feelings of necessity, the greater is the attempt to get it. Efforts are made to meet necessities when the need arises. All discoveries and inventions of science are the results of man’s necessities, like to protect oneself against cold, various warming devices were made. Similarly, as man’s needs will grow, new inventions will be made.

In a challenging world, we have been, from the beginning of history, facing the choice of either to invent and innovate or to perish. Accordingly, the inventions that were made from time to time have made the progress we have achieved, possible.

From the wheel, the list of our inventions stretches to the extremely sophisticated automation techniques of modern times. Like the constantly changing nature of inventions, their purpose also varies with time. If the earliest inventions were to ensure survival, those of the present is to make life easy and interesting.
