The Jogging Robots
Robots have since long been in use. They are commonly used in some advanced countries like Japan. Actually, robots are just machines which look like human beings and which perform certain acts that are normally done by human beings. Especially those actions which seem difficult or boring to human beings, are assigned to robots and are thus got done in a plain, simple way.
So far, we had robots which could make only a little movement and perform specialized tasks at one place or near a particular place. Now , the electronics and entertainment giant Sony has developed the world’s first running, jogging, robot. It is the sleek and diminutive Qrio developed by Sony which can trot at a speed of 14 meters ( 15 yard) per minute. It is actually the improved form of the Qrio which was until recently known as Sony’s SRR robot and which entertained people with fluid and funky dance motions.
Acceding to the Sony executive Toshidata Doll there are no plans to sell Qrio, which stands for “ quest for curiosity.” The machine is a marvel of technological finesse and imaginative innovation.
The big technological breakthrough was brought about by getting both of the robot’s feet to lose contact with the ground at once. So far, humanoid or two legged robots developed anywhere needed to keep one foot on the floor to move stably. Such humanoids included Sony’s older Qrios and Honda’s Asimo.
Another addition to the latest version of the Qrio includes more advanced finger control that allows it, swiveling like a baseball pitcher, to throw a light ball some three or four meters and hold fans while dancing.
So far the jogging Qrio is a source of amusement rather than one doing chores. Now, the company is contemplating to bring more changes in its structure such as to make its leg movements like those of an athlete rather than those of a jogger.
