The Most Important Choice of My Life

Year after year, I scored highest marks in Biology and my family always thought that I would want to be a doctor. So when I chose to take up dress designing everybody was rudely shocked. My parents sat me down and explained to me that I would be wasting my life if I took up dress designing. Dad said that I had a natural inclination to ward science and that if I took up what I was naturally inclined to ward I would be successful in life.

When Dad came to say goodnight the night before admissions, he asked me why I wanted to study dress designing. I asked him to look around my room. He looked around, didn’t see anything new. I asked him if he saw anything in the room that I had created. He looked around again, there was the lampshade I had made myself, then there was the table cloth that I had painted myself, and the vase on the table that I had done with my own hands. The quilt on my bed had been sewn by me and so was the painting on the wall. Dad had always thought of my art abilities as a hobby that I was exceptionally good at. He nodded his head and left.

I had gone through a lot of soul searching before I made my choice and was still unsure of it until Dad nailed it by saying that I should do something I was naturally inclined to. I was naturally creative. Yes I was blessed with a scientific bend of mind but I was always preoccupied with creating things. I knew that my passion lay in creating things. The most important choice of my life was actually the easiest to make.
