The Republic Day Celebrations

Essay No. 01

India got freedom on 15th August 1947. We had to struggle hard for freedom. Many people laid down their lives. Thousands went to jail during the freedom struggle. Then our leaders decided to form a democratic form of government. Some great leaders and learned men drafted the new Constitution. This new constitution came into force on the 26th of January, 1950 and with it India became a ‘Republic’. It was a red-letter day in the history of our country. Since then we have been celebrating it on the 26th of January every year. It is celebrated all over the country.

Like every year this year also it was celebrated with great pomp and show in our town. The celebrations started early in the morning. People went in groups around the city. They went singing patriotic songs. These songs filled everyone with pride for their country. An official function was held in the police grounds. Tents had been pitched. There were many rows of chairs for the invited guests. A small raised platform had been constructed for the Chief Guest to take a salute from the parade.

People have begun to arrive since early morning. The student were dressed in their uniforms. There were scouts and NCC cadets. The policemen wore their ceremonial dresses. Everybody looked smart. They were all standing in rows of threes.

At 9.30 a.m. the Governor of the State arrived. All stood up in this honour. He went up to the platform. He unfurled the National Flag. National Anthem was played. A guard of honour was presented.

Thereafter the Governor made a short and impressive speech. He urged the people to remain united and fight the divisive forces. He asked them to contribute to the development of the nation. He asked them to defend freedom at all cost.

Thereafter, the Parade started and went through the main roads of the city. Gates were put up at various places. People lined the roads and stood on their rooftops and balconies to catch a glimpse of the parade. There was a great enthusiasm among the people. The national tricolour could be seen fluttering from all the Government buildings and important places. The Republic Day had filled everyone with national pride.

This function is also celebrated in New Delhi with much pomp and show. It starts from the Vijay Chowk and ends at the Red Fort. The whole programme is telecast on all T.V. channels. Here the President of India takes the salute. Aeroplane fly of the Vijay Chowk making a Tri Coloured Indian Flag. It is a sight worth watching.

Essay No. 02

Republic day celebrations

India became a republic on 26^th Jan. 1950. It was on this day that the Constitution of India came into force. Since then the day is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country.

The main celebrations are held in Delhi. The place which is center of attraction is the lawns from Vijaya Chowk to India Gate. Thousands of People from the capital and other cities and tourists from all over the world gather there to witness the procession. Those who can’t come to watch it over the TV.

There is almost always one or other foreign dignitary every year who is invited to attend the function. The President comes in a bulletproof car from the Rashtrapti Chowan and is received by the Prime Minister. He hoists the flag and the National Anthem is sung by the school students.

The main attraction to the spectators is the cultural pageants of different. States and folk dances of the tribals. The school children also march and dance for a short distance.

The jets and at the end of the month the sky and throw rose petals on the spectators and the process. Finally, gas balloons presenting the colors of the tricolor are released in the sky. Some of the important buildings like the Rashtrapati Bhawan the Central Secretariat and the India Gate are tastefully illuminated at night. There is the beat of the retreat on 27^th Jan. when the tribal’s and others return to their home states.
