The Indus Valley Civilization excavation at Harappa and Mohenjodaro .in the aegis of Archaeological Survey of British India in the year 1920-22, revealed the existence of a well-developed civilization about 5,000 years ago.

Recently, I learnt that excavations at a place near Bhirdana village in the Fatehabad district which were started by the Archaeological

Survey of India (ASI) on had found the existence of township of the Harappan Era, living 5,000 years old there.

I went to see the place and got special permission from the authorities concerned for the same. I learnt that the ASI had already discovered the presence of the Harappan Era townships at two other places, Kunal and Banawali, in the district sometime in the past.

I saw with great curiosity the evidences of the Indus Valley Civilization at Bhirdana, which included structures made of mud bricks, a fortification wall, pottery and other antiques.

The excavation site spread across more than sixty thousand square metres and was situated on a mound. The excavations were being carried out under the “Saraswati Heritage Project” of the Union Government. I was told that the village seemed to be situated near the banks of the Saraswati river which was now extinct and had pissed into myth
