Swami Shradhananda left an indelible mark of his works on the 10 spiritual progress of the country. He founded the institution Gurukul Kangri, with a view to spreading education. This helped in spreading female-education and also in improving the image of Hindi language. He edited Saddharma Pracharak in 1889, Shraddha in 1918, Vijay in 1919 and Arjun in 1924 and through these he spread the nationalist feelings among masses. He was President of 1913 Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. He is known as a social reformer and spiritual patriot.
Born as Munni Ram, he spent his youth in voluptuous and luxurious living. He was an atheist but an encounter with Swami Dayanand changed him into an ascetic and a patriot. He was considered to be the heart of Delhi and was a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. He was the first Hindu to have roused the people of Delhi to patriotism from the ramparts of Jama Masjid. He was the one who bared his chest to the gun-wielding soldiers of the Viceroy in the Chandni Chowk procession.
Shradhanand’s works will never be forgotten. He gave India a new awakening in spiritual and national obligations.
