Prakash Padukone is the most successful Badminton player of India who has won laurels for his country by his brilliant achievements in international badminton. He was the national badminton champion for 9 consecutive years during 1970-78. When he was only 15, he made a record by winning junior boys and men’s singles’ badminton titles in 1971. Padukone’s achievements in international badminton are also magnificent. In 1980, he won the Badminton Grand Siam by winning three major international badminton tournaments including All England Badminton Championship. Padukone also represented India in Thomas. Cup matches. In the 7th Asian Games, held at Tehran in 1974, he won a bronze medal. In the Commonwealth Games held at Edmonton (Canada) in 1978, Prakash won the final of men’s single’s event by beating Ray Talbot of Britain in straight sets and won a gold medal. In the First World Games held in USA (1981), he was awarded a bronze medal.

Prakash Padukone was born on 10th June 1955, in Bangalore (Karnataka). He passed his B.Com., studying in Karnataka itself. At the age of 14, he became the national junior badminton champion, and at 15, the national champion. It was in 1971, that Prakash came into the national limelight and since then he was represented India at various international badminton tournaments.

For the last few years Prakash was living outside India, but returned to the national badminton scene in 1986. He is married to Ujjala and they are now parents of a little daughter.

Prakash Padukone has got to the top in badminton by defeating many big names in international badminton, and people have, therefore, high expectations from him in future also.
