James Hadley Chaise remains a very popular novelist amongst the young people for his romantic and detective novels. He was rather succeeded in capturing their imagination and created for himself a committed band of readers. His popularity can be gauged from by the fact that twenty million copies of his novels have been sold all over the world.
This famous writer was born in London in 1906, but his style of writing was fairly American. His first novel was published in 1938, followed by some eighty novels which were sold like hot cakes. The most well-known amongst his novels is No Orchids for Miss Blandish. Films have been made in England, America and France based on its story.
James Hadley Chaise served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He immigrated to France in 1956 and onto Switzerland in 1961 where Charlie Chaplin was his neighbour. Chaise died at the age of 78 in 1985.
