George VI
England : British Monarch
Born : AD 1895 Died : AD 1952
George VI is undoubtedly one of the most popular kings of England, where Royalty still exists despite being a democratic country.
Albert Frederick was the second son of King George V and Queen Mary. Albert ascended to the throne because his elder brother Edward VIII had to abdicate it because he wanted to marry a common woman and that too an American divorcee. Thus Albert Frederick became George VI. His special trait was that he was very shy but also very brave.
King George VI remained in London during the Blitzkrieg by German planes in Second World War. He remained unperturbed even when a bomb fell on Buckingham Palace and damaged a portion thereof. He even went to the various parts of London to inspect the damage caused by bombing. He went to every front of war and raised the morale of his troops by personally speaking to them. He also broadcast many messages through the BBC.
He’ visited India also. His countrymen loved him. However, his chain- smoking habit caused him cancer of lungs and he died of it in 1952.
