Telecommunication May Day – 16^th May

Telecommunication Day is celebrated on the 16th of May as a prestigious event in the field of mass communication. 16th May is the founding day of the International Telecommunication Union. Hence this day is commemorated as the telecommunication Day. Telecommunication is quick and vast means of communication in our society. The message or information reaches quickest to every nook and corner of the world. We can say that telecommunication has brought the world together and has made it smaller.

Satellite communication is made through artificial satellites. It helps in transmitting sound and pictures across great distances. We can see cricket matches, films, school television programmes for rural areas, inventions, discoveries and what not! Hence telecommunication has revolutionised the means of communication. Internet which is a network of computers is also connected through satellites. Thus it has provided the right to information to the masses in twenty-first century. Every year the theme of observation of Telecommunication Day is different according to the demand of the time and place. The International Telecommunication Union based in Geneva has chosen as this year’s celebration theme: ICI for all: empowering people to cross the digital divide. In Poland this year it will be celebrated with the theme, “Poland towards Information Society.” Anybody can know anything sitting within the four walls of his home.
