Karva Chauth

Karva Chauth is a women-oriented festival. On this day married Hindu women fast and pray for the welfare, prosperity, well-being and longevity of their husbands. In fact, this is done on the fourth day of Kartik month of Hindu year. The day is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the women of North India. Although the fasting observed on this day is very tough because it starts before the sunrise and ends after worshipping the moon, which is visible very late in the evening. During the fast, food and water is strictly prohibited. A sari is a must for the women.

The puja place is decorated with kharia matti, soaked in water. A chowk is decorated on the floor near Gaur Mata made up of cowdung in the shape of a human figure. First of all, roll teeka is applied on the forehead of Gaur before the start of the Puja. Everyone performs puja by dipping the third finger of the right hand in water, sprinkling it with the help of the thumb, three time on the deity. The women break their fast by looking at their husbands through a sieve and thereafter eat food.
