Jamshedji Navroz
Jarnshedji Navroz, a Parsi festival, is celebrated on March 21 annually since the period of Jamshed, the ruler of Iran. This is also celebrated as the day of New Year for the Parsis who follow the Fasli calendar. Apart from this, the day signifies the advent of spring.
The day is also celebrated as the symbolic victory of the forces of light over darkness. Historically, it is the same day when the famous king of Iran, Jamshed introduced solar reckoning into the Persian calendar. On the other hand, on this day the Sun enters in the Aries region, which starts a new year. According to the legend, the King Jamshed, on this day ordered the demons to carry him on their shoulders from Mount Demavand to Babylon.
On this day people worship in fire temples and then visit friends and relatives and exchange greetings to mark the occasion. Ajashh, including the performance of religious rites and ceremonies, is held before the sunset in community prayer halls.
