Black Sea

The area of the Black Sea is 436400 square kilometers, with an average depth of 1,190 meter. Black Sea is the world’s largest Meromictic Basin. Meromictic Basin is that basin in which the deep water and the upper floating water do not get mixed with each other. Black Sea has a positive water balance; the Mediterranean Sea water flows into the Black Sea as a part of two-way hydro-logical exchange. The Black Sea also receives water from large Eurasian fluvial systems to the north of the sea, of which the Don and Danube are the most significant. It is said that in olden times Black Sea was a land-locked lake of sweet water. It is also being said that it was the busy waterway on the crossroads of the ancient world. The Black Sea was also a significant naval theatre of First World War and saw both naval and land battles during Second World War.
